If you're an artist, maker, illustrator, jewelry designer, potter, woodworker, photographer, or creative business owner, there's one platform I think you should be paying a LOT more attention to:
Pinterest. 📌
And here's why.
Pinterest isn't just another place to post your artwork and hope somebody sees it.
Pinterest is a visual search and discovery engine — which makes it almost perfectly designed for artists.
👀 Pinterest Users Are Looking for Visual Ideas
Pinterest currently reports 640 million monthly active users, and 96% of its top searches are unbranded. That's especially important for independent artists: people aren't always searching for a famous artist or established company. They're searching for an idea, style, aesthetic, product, or inspiration — which gives creators they don't already know a chance to be discovered. Pinterest
Pinterest has also said its users make more than 80 billion queries per month. Pinterest
Think about what that means for an artist.
People aren't only searching:
“Buy art.”
They're searching for things like:
abstract wall art
colorful living room art
pottery ideas
handmade jewelry
watercolor flowers
gallery wall ideas
crochet patterns
handmade gifts
bedroom wall decor
painting inspiration
ceramic mugs
art studio ideas
Every one of those searches represents an opportunity for a creative business to get discovered.
🎨 Art, Handmade & Creative Interests Are Built Into Pinterest
I wouldn't make the blanket claim that “art and handmade are the #1 searches on Pinterest” without data proving that exact ranking.
But Pinterest's own trend data makes something else very clear: artistic styles, handmade techniques, design aesthetics, crafts, fashion and decor are deeply embedded in how people search the platform.
Look at just a few examples from Pinterest's 2026 trend data:
“Ethiopian art” increased 50%. “Circus art” increased 35%. “Lace doily” increased 105%, while “lace bandana” increased 150%. Pinterest's 2026 trends also include categories and aesthetics such as Pen Pals, Poetcore, Brooched, Afrohemian Decor, FunHaus and Laced Up. Pinterest
Pinterest says its team analyzed billions of searches and the visual content people engage with to identify its 2026 trends. And over the past six years, 88% of Pinterest's trend predictions have come true. Pinterest
That's a HUGE clue for artists.
People come to Pinterest looking for aesthetics, inspiration, things to make, things to decorate with and things to buy.
That's your world.
🔎 Artists Have Something Pinterest Wants: VISUAL CONTENT
This may be the biggest opportunity of all.
Your finished painting is visual.
Your pottery is visual.
Your jewelry is visual.
Your sketchbook is visual.
Your studio is visual.
Your PROCESS is visual.
Pinterest is investing heavily in visual search. In an Adobe study cited by Pinterest, 73% of respondents said Pinterest's visual search results outperform traditional search, while 36% said they now start searches on Pinterest instead of traditional search engines. Pinterest
That means artists don't have to limit themselves to posting a finished product with:
“Here's my newest painting.”
Turn ONE piece of artwork into multiple searchable pieces of content.
You could show the finished artwork, a close-up of the texture, your original sketch, the painting process, your materials, your studio, a time-lapse, the story behind the piece, styling the art in a room, or a before-and-after.
One piece of art could potentially give you weeks of Pinterest content.
🛍️ Pinterest Isn't Just Inspiration — People Shop There
This is where artists selling their work should really pay attention.
Pinterest says 80% of weekly Pinners feel inspired by the shopping experience on Pinterest. It also reaches 40% of U.S. households earning more than $150,000 annually. Pinterest
Pinterest's 2026 marketing research also reports that 90% of users say they find products relevant to them on Pinterest, and 70% say they're more likely to follow through with purchasing something they discovered there. Pinterest
You're not necessarily interrupting someone who came to watch funny videos.
You're putting your artwork in front of someone who may actively be searching for:
“original abstract art for living room.”
That's an entirely different kind of audience.
📌 Stop Posting Your Art Once
This is one of the biggest mistakes I see creatives make.
You spend 10 hours creating something...
Then you spend 10 seconds posting a picture of it.
And that's it.
NO!
You already did the hard part.
You created something worth showing.
Now market it.
Take another photo.
Create a video.
Show the process.
Tell the story.
Talk about the materials.
Show how it's used.
Show it in a room.
Create a gift angle.
Target another keyword.
Create another Pin.
Your goal isn't to make more stuff just so you have something new to post.
Your goal is to get more mileage out of what you've already created.
🚀 Artists: Pinterest Should Be Part of Your Marketing Strategy
Instagram can be useful.
TikTok can be useful.
Facebook can be useful.
But Pinterest deserves a completely different place in your strategy because people are actively searching and discovering.
And because 96% of Pinterest's top searches are unbranded, you don't necessarily need to be the artist everyone already knows.
You need to create the thing someone is looking for — and help Pinterest understand what it is. Pinterest
That's where keywords, Pinterest SEO, boards, Pin design and consistent content come in.
Your art already gives you the raw material.
Pinterest gives you the opportunity to get it discovered. 📌
🎨 Artists, makers & creatives...
Stop creating incredible work and hoping people magically find it.
SHOW THE WORK.
